Two of the doctors’ surgeries on Hoole Road, serving residents in Hoole and Newton, plan to move to a new super surgery in George Street, central Chester. Local Liberal Democrats oppose this as it would move essential local services away from the communities they serves and would also hit trade at the Faulkner Street shops. It would also force elderly and poorly people to make an unwelcome trip by bus or car to an inconvenient place. Liberal Democrat activist Neil Christian said: “People I talk to are angry that the two surgeries, encouraged by the NHS and Tory led Council, plan to relocate to near the centre of Chester. Keep local services local and support our local community”.

As a mother with three pre-school children this is fairly dismaying. It is not just inconvenient, it erodes the local community and is part of the homogenising of our cities. Its also isolating for the elderly, young families and those with additional social needs.
