Shortly before Christmas Hoole and Newton campaigner Mark Williams was contacted by a Kingsway resident who is concerned about the ever increasing bus prices from Kingsway. Mark was disturbed to find that a Stagecoach day rider is £3.60, or single £2.30, for jobseeker £1.15 from Kingsway to town!

This smacks of blatant profiteering as stage coach’s profit last year was up by almost £90 million! This does not seem to be a council ‘tendered’ subsidised route.

If Liberal Democrats were in charge, we would explore where we can use the tender process to stop exploitation of people using public transport by big businesses making excessive profits and look to whether additional powers may be gained as part of what the government is offering to city regions and councils.
